Delight in the Word
Everyday...
There are two great commandments – Love God and love your neighbor. If the composer of Psalm 119 had had his way there might have been a bid for a third – love (or delight in) your Bible.
Psalm 119:47 - I will delight in Your commandments, which I love.
Psalm 119:48 - And I shall lift up my hands to Your commandments, which I love; and I will meditate on Your statutes.
Psalm 119:97 - How I love Your Law! It is my meditation all the day.
Psalm 119:113 - I hate those who are double-minded, but I love Your Law.
Psalm 119:119 - You have removed all the wicked of the earth like impurities; therefore I love Your testimonies.
Psalm 119:127 - Therefore I love Your commandments above gold, yes, above pure gold.
Psalm 119:132 - Turn to me and be gracious to me, as is right for those who love Your name.
Psalm 119:140 - Your word is very pure, therefore Your servant loves it.
Psalm 119:159 - Consider how I love Your precepts; revive me, LORD, according to Your faithfulness.
Psalm 119:163 - I hate and loathe falsehood, but I love Your Law.
Psalm 119:165 - Those who love Your Law have great peace, and nothing causes them to stumble.
Psalm 119:167 - My soul keeps Your testimonies, And I love them exceedingly.
Nine more times the Psalmist says he “delights” in God’s Word. So…how to love/delight in God’s Word this year in an intensive way?
• Get EVERY day in it. Start the day in it! EVERY day.
• Seek His face in every word of the Text.
• Pray using it (esp. Psalms).
• Memorize it.
• Inductive Bible study it.
• Never study without finding a fresh way to apply it TODAY. Try it - a holy experimental approach.
• Exude joy while engaging the Word.
• Meditate on it.
• Teach what you are learning
• Talk to others conversationally about it.
Love it, romance it, fall deeper in love with it. Daily.
